The Jamestown Police Department is committed to protecting the safety and quality of life for the residents in the community.  We will promote the safe movement of traffic throughout the community by employing a comprehensive approach including engineering, education and enforcement.

Residents with specific traffic concerns should contact Lieutenant Karen Catlow at 423-1212, or kcatlow@jamestownri.net to file a complaint of their concerns.

Engineering- The Jamestown Police Department will assess the area of concern including evaluating the current speed limit, determine the average speed limit and evaluate current signage. Based upon that assessment we may recommend additional signage or a modification to the current speed limit.

Education- The Police Department may conduct an educational effort by a number of methods. This may include deploying our variable message and speed monitoring trailer or deploying officers to monitor traffic and inform the motoring public of violations. Or the combination of the two.

Enforcement- Following a period of time of education in a particular area, officers may be deployed to the area to conduct speed enforcement. It is during this time that motorist in violation should expect be cited for violations.
In all cases we shall report back to the citizen our findings and response.
