Security Camera Registry
The Jamestown Police Department is requesting businesses and residents of Jamestown assist with criminal investigations by participating in our Security Camera Registry. Residents and business owners who agree to participate in this program will provide the Jamestown Police Department information regarding their security camera system. When we are investigating a criminal incident we may request your assistance with reviewing your security camera recordings to determine if anything that may be helpful to the investigation was recorded.
If the Jamestown Police is investigating a criminal incident in the vicinity of a registered security camera system we may contact the registrant to review their video recordings for activity such as criminal suspects, getaway cars, or other suspicious activity that may be of value to our investigation. If the registrant determines their security system captured any such activity they would be asked to contact Jamestown Police so we could arrange to obtain a copy of the video.
PLEASE NOTE:
Participation in this program is voluntary. Registration of your camera system does not provide the Jamestown Police with direct access to your cameras. Registrants may withdraw their camera registration at any time by contacting Jamestown Police. All information provided to the Security Camera Registry will be kept confidential by the Jamestown Police Department, and will only be released under a court order. Your information will only be accessed by law enforcement personnel who are investigating a crime in the vicinity of where your cameras are located.
TERMS:
Any video recordings containing or related to criminal activity may be collected by the Jamestown Police Department for use as evidence.
Under no circumstances shall registrants construe that they are acting as an agent and/or employee of the Town of Jamestown and/or the Jamestown Police Department through this program.
If/when it is deemed necessary, the Jamestown Police Department will contact you directly, via the contact information you provide in the registration form, to request video surveillance recordings.
