Traffic
The Jamestown Police Department uses multiple methods to enforce State traffic laws and local ordinances. Regular police patrols are supplemented with specialized patrols targeting intoxicated drivers, speeding vehicles, and safety belt / child car seat violations. These specialized patrols are funded by State and Federal grants.
The main objective of enforcing traffic laws/ordinances is to ensure the safety of the public. Issuing traffic tickets is not a source of revenue for the police department. Officers are not encouraged or required to write traffic tickets. If you are stopped by the police for a traffic violation the officer may take several factors into consideration before deciding whether to issue you a ticket. The nature of the violation, the amount of other traffic on the road at the time of the violation, and your prior driving history may all be taken into consideration.
